How to Add Contacts to Skype in Linux

Skype is a software application that allows you to make person to person calls over the Internet. You can also use Skype to call a landline or cell phone for a fee. There are Skype packages available for the Ubuntu, Fedora, SuSE and Debian Linux distributions. Users of other distributions can download the Static or Dynamic packages. The Skype for Linux software has a slightly different interface than the Windows or Mac OSX versions.

Instructions

      Open the "Skype" program. It is found under the "Internet" sub-menu of the main Applications or Programs menu.

      Click on the green "+" button at the bottom of the Skype window. A new "Search for Skype Contacts" window will appear.

      Type the contact's full name, Skype name or email address into the first text box.

      Add any other known demographic information into the remaining text boxes and drop down menus.

      Click the "Search" button to locate the individual

      Click on the name of the individual that you want to add in the "Full Name" text box.

      Click the "Add Contact" button to add the individual to your contacts list.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add a phone number as a contact by clicking on the "Or add phone number as contact" button at the bottom of the "Search for Skype Contacts" screen.
