Text messaging, or short message service (SMS) texting, is a quick and easy way to communicate with cell phone users. A message can be delivered in seconds to a cell phone subscriber. Many cell phone users prefer to send a text message, because it usually does not take away from their talk time minutes. Even if you do not have access to a cell phone, you can send a text message to a Nextel subscriber.

Step 1

Access your email account. If you are using web-based email, access your email account through your web browser. If you are using an email program such as Outlook, open the program.

Step 2

Compose the text message. Keep in mind that text messages can only be a certain length. In most cases, the messages can only be 160 characters or less.

Step 3

Address the text message to the Nextel subscriber you are texting. The address to send your message to is the recipient's number, then "@messaging.nextel.com." For example, if you are texting 936-555-5555, the address would be 9365555555@messaging.nextel.com.

Step 4

Select the option in your email program to send the message.

Step 5

Check with the recipient to ensure the message was received. The message should be received in the same length of time a text message from a cell phone would. If the recipient did not receive the message, check the address to which you sent the message. If incorrect, correct the address and resend the message.
