Learn how to record music from your speakers by using three different types of audio-recording software.

Knowing how to record music that is being output from your speakers can be a very useful skill to have. Sometimes audio isn't available for download or purchase—in other words, anything live such as a radio stream or a Skype phone call— so the easiest way to get hold of this audio is to record it as it plays.

Instructions

  1. Wavepad

      Download and install Wavepad (see the Resources section).

      Open Wavepad, press the "Record" button and press "OK" on the "Sample Rate" box. A record settings box will then appear.

      Change the "Recording - Device" setting to "Wave Out Mix."

      Press the record button on Wavepad, then play the music you wish to record. Once you've captured all the audio you need, press "Stop" on both Wavepad and the audio.

      Close the recording box and export your audio. To do this, click on the "Save" tab located on the top toolbar.

      Choose an export location, name your file and choose a format from the "Save As Type" drop-down list (MP3/WAV) are recommended. Press "Save," and your file will be exported.

    Record Pad

      Download and install Record Pad (see the Resources section).

      Open the program, click on "Options" and select "Record."

      Select "Wave Out Mix" from the "Record Device" drop-down list.

      Click on the "Output" tab and choose an output format (WAV, MP3 or AIFF) and output destination. Press "OK" to save these settings.

      Click "Record" on Record Pad and play the audio you wish to record. Once you've captured all the audio you need, press "Stop" on both Record Pad and the audio.

    Hi-Q Rec

      Download and install Hi-Q Rec (see the Resources section).

      Open the program and click on the "Options" button.

      Change your "Recording Device" to "Wave Out Mix."

      "Select" a destination to "Output Recorded Files To," then press "OK."

      Press "Record" on Hi-Q Rec and play the audio you wish to record. Once you've captured all the audio you require, press "Stop" on both the program and the audio. Your file will be automatically saved in your chosen output destination.
