How to Hook Up a Subwoofer to a Rear Speaker?
Subwoofers are low-frequency effects speakers that produce bass. Many subs are equipped with terminal connections for hooking up additional speakers, typically smaller satellite channels such as rear speakers. The setup uses the subwoofer's crossover control to send audio signals above a certain frequency to the connected speaker; signals below that frequency setting are sent to the subwoofer for producing bass. Standard speaker wire can be used to hook up the rear speaker to the sub.
Instructions

1
Cut a length of wire to connect between the sub and the extra speaker, then remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the two wires on each end.
-
2
Connect the two wires on one end to the red (positive) and black (negative) terminals on the back of the sub, which may have terminals labeled left and right. If connecting one rear speaker only, hook up the wires to either the left or right terminals by lifting the colored lever to insert each wire in the hole underneath.

Hook up the other end of the wire from the positive terminal on the subwoofer to the positive terminal on the back of the rear speaker and the negative wire to the negative terminal. Wires are typically made in two colors to tell them apart.

Set the crossover knob on the back of the sub to the desired frequency for sending audio signals above that setting to the rear speaker.
