How to Clean a Microsoft Optical Mouse

Optical mice use light to detect their position on a surface. This allows for smoother control and lower maintenance than mechanical ball mice. The ergonomically-designed Microsoft optical mouse requires little cleaning aside from removing any dust or sticky residue from the bottom. Clean your Microsoft optical mouse any time the cursor seems to stick or jump.

Things You'll Need

• Isopropyl alcohol
• Cotton swabs
• Cloth

Instructions

1. Unplug the optical mouse from your computer.

2. Dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol. Squeeze out any excess alcohol and wipe the bottom of the mouse with the swab. Remove any dirt or residue from the LED light and lens.

3. Dampen a cloth with isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the top and bottom of the optical mouse with the cloth.

4. Plug the Microsoft optical mouse back in when it's completely dry.
