How to Install Canon 2200 Toner

The Canon ImageRUNNER 2200 is a black and white copier and printer that can produce 22 copies every minute with a 600-by-600 dpi output resolution. Like most large copiers, the Canon 2200 uses a powdered toner to produce its images. Many people are familiar with replacing toner cartridges when they run out, but the ImageRUNNERs have a slightly unusual method of toner replacement. A toner box is housed in the unit itself, and you need to use a replacement toner cartridge to refill the toner box.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull out of the front cover of the Canon 2200 so that it flips down and exposes the inside of the machine.

    • 2

Remove any toner cartridge already in the machine by pressing down on the blue lever located near the bottom right of the inside of the machine. Then grasp the toner box right above the handle and slide it out until it stops.

    • 3

Hold the new toner cartridge in both hands and shake it from side to side a few times to loosen up the toner.

    • 4

Orient the toner cartridge so that the flat surface is facing downward and the small handle at the end of the surface is pointing toward you.

    • 5

Place the toner cartridge on top of the toner box. Push it back in as far as it will go and then press down on the cartridge until you feel it click into place.

    • 6

Pull back on the small handle on the top of the cartridge. A thin separator sheet between the cartridge and the toner box will come out. Continue to pull until you see a stop sign on the separator sheet.

    • 7

Tap on the toner cartridge to cause the toner to vacate the cartridge and fall into the toner box. After you have tapped it a few times, push the cartridge handle back in. When the handle goes all the way back in, you will feel the cartridge unlock from the toner box.

    • 8

Remove the empty toner cartridge and push the toner box back into the machine. Pull up on the blue lever once the box is all the way in. Close the front cover to the Canon 2200.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when you remove the empty toner cartridge, as loose toner can scatter.

  • Do not throw the empty toner cartridge into open flames, as this will ignite any toner left in the cartridge.
