How to Build a Waterfall in a Water Pond
A pond waterfall stimulates and refreshes senses in many ways. The cascading water is a breathtaking sight. The breeze felt from the soft pattering of falling water is cool, refreshing and adds tranquility to any atmosphere. A pond waterfall also filters the water, making it healthier for any inhabitants, such as fish and plants. Construct your own pond waterfall out of rocks from your own property or purchased from a store. Use large, flat-sided, rocks for the bottom of the waterfall and smaller ones for the top so that the waterfall gradually decreases in size from bottom to top. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove any fish or decorations that occupy the pond before building the waterfall. Place them in safe containers until the project is complete.
-
2
Drain the pond until you are able to walk along the bottom of it. Measure the depth of the pool and the length at the farthest points. The measurements help determine the size of the waterfall and the length of tubing that will be used. The height of the waterfall should be half the length of the pool.

3
Choose a flat side of the pond where you want to build the waterfall. Place the pump liner in this location and set rocks along the liner to keep it in place.
-
4
Place the pond filter in the deepest part of the bottom of the pond. Set the pump on top of the pump liner. Measure the length from the filter to the pump. Cut the tubing to that length and attach one end to the filter and one end to the pump. This tubing will circulate the water from the filter to the pump. Attach another small section of tubing to the top of the pump to filter water to the top of the waterfall.
-
5
Place rocks in a decorative fashion around the pump, starting with the larger ones, until the pump is mostly hidden. Leave a small opening at the bottom for easy access to the pump when needed. Stack the rocks in a pyramid fashion with the angle or slope facing toward the pond. Snake the tubing up through the rocks being careful not to push any rocks against it. Set the tubing at the top, aiming the opening down the slope to create a waterfall.
-
6
Refill the pond. Fill it 4 to 5 inches below the level edge of the pond to prevent overflowing if there are any plants and fish that need to be added. Add any plants or decorations back to the pond. Wait until the water is normal air temperature before adding any fish back to the pond.
-
7
Turn the pump and filter on and watch closely to see if it works properly. It will take about five minutes for the waterfall to start flowling smoothly. Adjust the flow of the waterfall as needed if it is not flowing well enough.
