1
Format your resume. Create a document in your word processing program or use a template as a guideline. Enter basic information, including your name, phone number, address, and email. Include an objective that shows your specific job specialization within cosmetology. For instance, describe your focus as a esthetician, hairdresser, or makeup artist. Use a font that is clear and easy to read.
-
2
List all experience you have that relates to cosmetology. Even if the experience is only sweeping up hair clippings in a beauty parlor, it does count as experience toward the job you are applying for. Include experience at internships, side or odd jobs.

3
List licensing information or the hours you have completed toward your license. If your experience is very thin in the cosmetology industry, boost your resume by listing other managerial or office skills. This will show potential employers your aptitude for leadership and forward thinking, as well as skills that may be useful for the business side of the salon.

Because the demand for cosmetologists is high, apprenticeship programs may be readily available for inexperienced cosmetologists. Tailoring a resume to include specific schooling, references or specific waxing, cutting or other application methods can land budding cosmetologists the training they need to complete the license or open a new practice.

5
Review your resume for typos or incorrect formatting. Print the resume on high quality bond or resume paper and place it in a paper or plastic folder to protect it from crinkling or smudging. Read your resume before you interview so you will have the information fresh in your mind for answering questions about your work experience.

Tips & Warnings
Keep the style for all work experience listings the same. For instance, don't use bullets for one job, stars for another or dashes for something else. A simple and clean style is the most effective.
Avoid using more than two colors or two different fonts when creating a resume, as this can distract potential employers from your qualifications and experience.
