How to Decorate a Wedding Wishing Well Box

These are hat boxes that can be used for wishing wells.

The wishing well is a bridal shower tradition that has been around for centuries. Typically, guests are asked to bring a small gift of some sort or an envelope with money to place in the wishing well at the shower to bring the bride good luck in her marriage. You can create and decorate your own wishing well out of a few simple materials. It will be one of a kind, and a focal point at the shower.

Things You'll Need

• 2 hat boxes (1 large and 1 smaller)
• Utility knife
• Newspaper
• Spray paint (glossy)
• Ribbons
• Scissors
• Bows
• Fabric glue
• Flowers
• Clear gloss
• Glitter

Instructions

1. Remove the box lids from each box. Cut a large hole in the large box lid, cut a hole in the bottom of the small box that is large enough for cards to fall through, and then cut a slit about 1 inch wide and 9 inches long in the small lid.

2. Spray paint the boxes and lids. Lay newspaper on the floor or the ground, wherever you choose, to protect the area from the paint. Lightly paint all of the pieces on the outside. It is not necessary to paint the insides.

3. Allow a few hours for the spray paint to dry before decorating the pieces.

4. Cut ribbons and bows, and then glue them onto the outside of the hat boxes. Any pattern you like is fine, and make sure you choose accessories that either flow with the color scheme of the shower, or are white to go along with tradition.

5. Add flowers and bows around the card slit that you made on the small lid.

6. Glue the large lid to the large hat box. Glue the small box to the large box lid so the hat boxes will now be stacked. Do not glue the small lid to the small box. You need to remove this to retrieve the cards.

7. Spray clear gloss onto the wishing well and sprinkle glitter onto it for finishing detail.
