How to Delete the Drop-Down Email Address in Mac Mail thumbnail
In Mac Mail, the drop-down menu is linked to the accounts.

Mac Mail is an email client that consolidates mail from all your email accounts. In Mac Mail, there is a drop-down menu of the header portion of any email that you compose. This allows you to select the address, or account, from which you will send an email. To delete an email address from that menu, you must delete the account. This will render any attempt to retrieve any past mail from that account very difficult unless you have it saved on other servers. Another option is to leave the address in the drop-down menu, but choose another default address from which to send all mail.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Mail on your Mac and click on "Mail" at the top of the Mail window.

    • 2

      Select "Preferences" and then "Accounts."

    • 3

Choose the account linked to the email address you want to delete and click the "-" sign at the bottom of the window. Be very sure you want to delete this address from your Mail program prior to doing so.

Change the default address from which you send email as a lower-impact option if you wish. Do this by selecting "Composing" from the "Preferences" window you have open, and click the "Send new messages from" drop-down window. Choose an email address to use as a default. This email address will appear in the drop-down menu in the "From" field of all new emails. You can still manually change the "From" address by choosing from the drop-down window of each email you compose.
