Import pictures from external media or your hard drive.

Available as a free download for Windows 7 and Windows Vista users, Microsoft's Windows Live Movie Maker software allows you to quickly create picture slide shows with music playing in the background, as well as create and edit video-based movies. After you have created your slide show, you may upload it to YouTube, burn your slide show to a DVD or save the file to your hard drive. From time to time, Microsoft offers updated, beta versions of the Windows Live Movie Maker software, which may have different features than the current, official software.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Live Movie Maker. Click on "Add Videos and Photos" on the "Home" tab. (The "Home" tab is the default tab when you open Windows Live Movie Maker.) Navigate to and select the photos you wish to include in your slide show. Drag and select multiple photos, or hold down the "Shift" or "Ctrl" buttons when clicking to select more than one photo at a time.

Click on "Add Music" on the "Home" tab. Navigate to and select the music you wish to include in your slide show.

    • 3

Click on "AutoMovie" in the "Home" tab. Preview your slide show by pressing the "Play" button.

    • 4

Click on the "File" button in the menu bar (to the immediate left of "Home"), then "Save Movie." Select "Standard definition," "High definition" or "Widescreen," according to your preferences.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may modify the picture-to-picture transitions, add credits and titles and add other effects to your slide show before saving the file.

  • Windows Vista and Windows XP users may also use the "Windows Movie Maker" software included in those operating systems to create photo slide shows.
