Repeat this round ten times. Hold the square to your body with one corner toward your chin to make sure that it will wrap around. Add rows if necessary.

Start at one corner and make a chain of 25 stitches. Slip stitch into the eighteenth stitch from the corner. Try the top on to make sure your head will fit through the resulting loop before cutting the yarn. Add or subtract stitches if necessary until you are happy with its length. Tie off and cut yarn.

    • 6

Attach yarn to one side corner and chain for 7 inches. Single crochet back along the length and tie off at the body of the top. Repeat this at the opposite corner. These are the back ties.

    Finish Top

    • 7

Cut a square of fabric the same measurements as your granny square. Knit fabric won't unravel and so it won't need hemming. Cut the square of fabric 1/2 inch on all sides larger than the granny square and sew a hem around all four sides if you use regular cotton weave.

    • 8

Lay the granny square over the fabric, with the wrong sides facing. Slip stitch around the edges to attach the liner to the granny square.

    • 9

Slip the neck loop over your head and tie the sides around your back to wear your new top.
