How to Refill the HP 22 Tri-Color Printer Cartridge

Refill your HP 22 ink cartridge at home for less than the cost of a new ink cartridge.

The HP 22 Tri-Color ink cartridge is used in the HP PSC 1410 all-in-one printer, HP Deskjet 3930 printer and the Deskjet 3940 printer. You can refill the cartridge using a refill kit that contains the supplies needed to fill the cartridge at home. You will save money by refilling your own ink cartridge with a refill kit that can be used up to 10 times.

Things You'll Need

• Newspaper
• Paper towel
• HP 22 Refill kit
• Toothpick

Instructions

1. Place the empty HP 22 ink cartridge on the newspaper to prevent any spills from ruining your table. Remove the top label from the cartridge to reveal the fill holes. Take the refill supplies out of the package. You will have one bottle each of cyan, yellow and magenta ink and three syringes.

2. Place a toothpick in each of the refill holes to test the color. The magenta should be at the top center, the yellow at center left and the cyan at center right.

3. Place the syringe needle in the ink. Use a separate syringe for each color. Pull back on the piston to draw out 5 ml of each color ink.

4. Place the syringe needle into the fill hole. Remember where the colors are located so you fill the correct fill hole with the correct color. Slowly push down on the piston to inject the ink. Do this for each color. If any ink starts to bubble out of the hole, stop and wipe up excess ink. The cartridge colors may not be empty all the way and will not take the full amount.

5. Place the newly filled HP 22 ink cartridge in the printer carriage. Close the cover and run three to four test pages to cycle the ink. You can use any document with some color to run the test page.
