How to Make Magnetic Bead Jewelry

Magnetic therapy is rooted in Chinese medicine and has been practiced since 2000 B.C. Holistic healers believe the energy from magnets helps relieve pain and alleviates mental stress. Magnetic bead jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces, anklets and rings are popular choices for magnetic therapy practitioners. Magnetic jewelry offers the benefits of the healing magnets 24 hours a day, unlike other magnetic therapy products. Magnetic beads are readily available at many online bead suppliers, so you can make your own magnetic jewelry for a fraction of retail cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a length of flexible beading wire two inches longer than the beaded length of the magnetic jewelry strand. The clasp will increase the overall length.

    • 2

Insert one part of the jewelry clasp over one end of the cut beading wire. Fold one inch of beading wire over the clasp loop. Slide a crimp bead over the open end of the wire to the clasp loop. Press the crimp bead to the beading wire with crimping pliers. The crimped bead will hold the wire in place around the clasp loop.

    • 3

Slide your choice of magnetic beads over the open end of beading wire to the crimp bead. Natural magnetic beads such as hematite or magnetite are available for making magnetic jewelry. You can also find a wide assortment of man-made magnetic beads that are made using the same mineral properties as natural hematite. The man-made beads are uniform and available in a variety of shapes and sizes.

    • 4

Fill the length of the flexible beading wire with your choice of magnetic beads. Leave one inch of beading wire open at the end of the strand.

    • 5

Slide a crimp bead behind the last magnetic bead. Slide the remaining clasp section behind the crimp bead. Fold the wire around the clasp loop, through the crimp bead and the adjacent magnetic beads. Crimp the crimp bead.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a magnetic ring by stringing magnetic beads onto a strand of elastic beading cord. Knot the cord to make a circle. Cover the knot with jeweler’s glue. When the glue dries, position the knot inside a magnetic bead.
