How to Disassemble Metal Drawer Slides

Sometimes your old metal drawer slides can become broken or bent, rendering your drawer unusable. You can disassemble the old drawer slides and have a working drawer in about one hour. Take note of the length of your old drawer slides, as well as the distance between each nail, staple or screw. You will need these measurements to purchase new drawer slides.

  • Pull your drawer out all the way and lift up and out to release the drawer from the old slide. You may need to use force if you have a slide with bad damage.

  • Determine what type of fastener is securing your drawer slide.

  • Use the claw on a hammer to remove any nails. Use a screwdriver to remove the old screws. Pliers will remove any staples.

  • Repeat the steps for the other drawer slide. If there are also slides on the actual drawer, remove and measure them as well.
