How to Launch a Music CD

CDs remain once of the most popular forms of music consumption.

Normally, your computer will auto-run and decide what should be done when a CD is placed in its drive. If that happens, launching a music CD is effortless. However, sometimes this fails and some manual input will be needed to coax your computer into launching your music. But don't fear, this is a very simply process.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the CD drive on your computer.

    • 2

Place the music CD into the slot so that the label is facing upward and the shiny side is facing downwards. This will enable the laser reader in the computer to see the data it needs to see in order to run your CD and play your music. Your computer should automatically play the music CD. Either it will open your default music playing program, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player. Alternatively, it might present you with a dialog box, prompting you to choose one of the options. These options should be things such as "rip CD" and "play CD".

Click the Windows button if the CD doesn't automatically run - this is called "Start" on older versions of Windows. Select "My Computer" to see a list of drives that your computer is currently recognizing. Similarly, on an Apple computer, click the "Finder" or Macintosh hard drive icon and select the CD drive.

    • 4

Double-click the CD icon. From here, your computer will launch your music CD through your default music player.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean your CD of dirt and finger prints by rubbing the CD smoothly from the inside of the ring to the outside with a non-abrasive cloth.
