How to Play X Box Games on XBox 360

The Xbox 360, the second gaming console from Microsoft, is also able to play games from the original Xbox gaming console. A simple software update makes backwards compatibility possible on all Xbox 360s with hard drives. If you have Internet access and an Xbox Live account, the console will automatically update your software for you.

      Connect your Xbox 360 to the Internet via wired or wireless access. If you have wired Internet service, plug one end of an Ethernet cable into an available Ethernet port on your router/modem and plug the other end into the Ethernet port in the back of your 360. If you have wireless service, click on "System Settings" of the My Xbox menu on your dashboard. Enter your wireless network name and password to connect.

      Eject the disc drive and insert the original Xbox game you want to play into the disc tray. Close the disc tray. An Update Required prompt will appear as the game tries to load.

      Select "Yes, update now." The update will start and a progress bar will appear. After the update is complete, your original Xbox game will load.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need to create an Xbox Live account, select "Marketplace" from the dashboard and click "Join Xbox Live." Follow the prompts to create a profile. Afterward, back out to the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
