Instructions

    • 1

Look around your home for items that could be reused to make a desk. For example you may have a few milk crates, an old coffee table, an old door or that ugly set of nightstands your mother-in-law let you use at your first apartment. Look for items that will provide a sturdy base to support a desk surface such as milk crates or nightstands. Look for work surface for the desk. An old door or table surface would be ideal.

    • 2

Sand the surface of the materials that you have found for the desk supports and desk surface lightly with fine-grit sandpaper.

    • 3

Apply a coat of primer to the materials. Allow the primer to dry. Prime sand the materials with sandpaper.

    • 4

Apply a coat of paint to the materials. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 5

Position the materials for the desk supports parallel to each other. Space them apart at the same as the length of the desk surface.

    • 6

Place the desk surface on top of the desk supports. Align the ends so that they are even with the supports.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are short on extra materials, ask a friend or family member if they have anything they might want to give away. Look in classifieds listings for free items that might work to make a desk.

  • Wear eye protection and a dust mask when sanding.
