How to Sync Video and Audio in Sony Vegas

How to Sync Video and Audio in Sony Vegas thumbnail
Use Sony's Vegas software to combine and align video and audio clips.

Sony Vegas is a popular and powerful application for digital video editing and production. You can accomplish editing, color correction, special effects and audio processing within the application, rendered in a variety of formats. Sync audio and video by using the application's time line. You can place audio to coincide with any single frame of video, allowing for precise adjustments and a professional grade look and sound for your video projects.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the frame of video that coincides with your audio event. Use the plus and minus buttons at the right of the time line to zoom all the way in on the desired frame. This could be a point at which a person is opening his or her mouth to speak, or where you want a sound effect to match the action in a video clip.

    • 2

Click and drag the audio clip to the left or right to align to the desired frame. Click the "Play" button at the top of the time line and monitor the result of your adjustments in the preview window at the top right of the screen. Make small adjustments until the audio is synced in the desired way.

    • 3

Group the audio and video tracks together. This will lock the two clips so that you can move them along the time line together without disrupting the timing. Hold down the "Shift" key and click on each clip to select them both at the same time. Right-click on the selection and choose "Group" from the pull-down menu that appears.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the audio and video clips will not move along the time line independently, click on the clip to select them (both will be selected without the use of the "Shift" key in this case). Right-click on the selection and click on "Remove From Group" from the pull-down menu that appears. You can then drag each clip along the time line separately.
