How to Make Smiley Faces on Facebook Chat

Facebook is a free social networking site that allows you to keep in touch with your friends. One of the ways you can communicate is through the chat (instant messaging) feature. When you want to convey emotions, you can use smiley faces, or emoticons. There is no graphical feature that you can click on, but you can use a combination of keyboard characters to create the smiley graphics. The person you are chatting with will see the graphic, not the characters you typed.

Instructions

1. Click on the "Chat" button in the bottom right corner of the Facebook page.

2. Click on the name of the friend with whom you want to chat. A text box, where you can type your message, will appear.

3. Type ":)" (without quotes) in the text box to create a smiley face.

4. Type ":(" in the text box to create a face with a frown.

5. Type ":D" in the text box to create a face with a large smile.

6. Type "8)" in the text box to create a smiley face wearing sunglasses.
