Owning real property is part of the American Dream. You can own a vacation home, your permanent residence or an investment property. In New York City, the cost of property ownership can be high, particularly when you account for the property taxes that you may owe. If you are unsure of the amount of money that you may owe to the city in property taxes, you can check with the Department of Finance.

      Navigate to the NYC Department of Finance website. Locate the "Property" section. Click on the link for "Bills and Payments." From here, you must select the "Statement of Account" link.

      Click the link for "Check Your Current Balance/Make Payments." This will bring you to the "NYCServe eService Center" website where you can search for outstanding property taxes. You can search by Borough, Block, and Lot (BBL) number or by the address. You can also check your payment history as well as the last payment made to the Department of Finance. Choose your preferred method of searching and click "GO."

      Search for your property. Once you enter your BBL number or your address, click "SEARCH" and select your property from the list. This will show you the amount of property tax due and its due date.
