How to Make Pilgrim Hats for Girls thumbnail
Pilgrim hats are found at many Thanksgiving pageants.

Pilgrim hats are synonymous with autumn, the change of seasons and grade school pageants. In the United States, grade school students assemble into Thanksgiving pageants celebrating the founding of America by the Pilgrims every year. Some students play the role of Native Americans, while other children play the Pilgrims. Assembling Pilgrim hats for these events can be a fun and easy activity.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure two inches along the width of the paper. Fold paper lengthwise two inches into the paper. Curve the piece of paper around the child's head so that the shorter ends extend down to each side of the child's jawline. Measure six inches from each end of the paper and mark it with a pencil.

    • 2

Cut a slit on the two marks that extends for four inches width wise; you now have three pieces of paper opposite the two-inch folded length. Fold the two end pieces onto each other. Apply glue onto the pieces and then glue the middle piece on top of the two pieces that were glued to each other.

    • 3

Allow the glue to dry. On each end of the hat, hole punch one hole inside the flap. Tie a piece of yarn to each hole in the hat. Place the hat on your child's head and tie the piece of yarn under her chin.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hat can made with felt and then reused yearly. Use Velcro instead of yarn, then to secure the hat.
