A flameless candle is a type of lamp that imitates the look of a candle without actually burning. It has a flame-shaped bulb and an exterior that looks like a candle. You can get a similar bulb out of a night light, and use an actual candle for the body of the lamp. Thread your cord through the candle and out the side, and you have got a pretty convincing imitation candle.

Step 1

Drill a hole in the side of the glass around a votive candle. Use the kind of candle with a cylindrical glass tube around it. Go slowly and drill towards the bottom of the side of the candle.

Step 2

Melt a path from the top of the candle to the hole in the bottom. Heat a coat hanger over a flame and push it into the candle from the top until it goes through.

Step 3

Unscrew a night light. You will see a lamp with a flame-shaped bulb and a plug attached to two terminals. Remove the terminals and any attached pieces of plastic. Keep the lamp.

Step 4

Thread a lamp cord through the hole in the bottom until the wires come out the top.

Step 5

Attach one wire to each terminal of the lamp. Wrap it around the terminal and then solder the connection.

Step 6

Push the lamp into the candle wax so that part of the bulb is below the surface. Plug it in to turn it on.

Tip

You can put tape over the ends of the lamp cord wires before you thread it through the candle. That will keep wax out of the wires, ensuring a better connection.

Warning

Supervise this candle until you know how much heat it produces. If it gets too hot, it could start a fire.
