How to Clean Glass Doors on Bathtubs

A mix of vinegar and water is an effective soap scum remover on glass shower doors.

Glass doors on bathtubs are sometimes more attractive than shower curtains, but can be tough to maintain. Soap scum is the enemy of glass doors on bathtubs. When soap scum accumulates, glass doors on bathtubs become even harder to clean.

Instructions

1. Apply an alkaline soap scum remover to the glass doors. These solutions can be found in sprays or liquids. A cheaper alternative is a vinegar solution of one-half vinegar and one-half water. Let the solution sit for 15 minutes.

2. Rub the area with a scrub brush formulated for glass. If the area is stubborn, you'll need to apply more alkaline soap scum remover, or vinegar and water, wait another 15 minutes and scrub again.

3. Rinse the glass doors with clear water. Then prevention is key. Spray the glass doors on your bathtub with a daily shower cleaner such as Tilex Fresh Shower or Arm & Hammer Clean Shower. When used regularly, sprays like these help prevent the buildup of soap scum.

Tips & Warnings

• For frosted shower doors, apply a light coating of lemon oil periodically to help prevent soap scum build-up, advises Merry Maids..

• Talc in soap contributes to soap scum. Switch to liquid soap when possible.
