How to Adjust Glow Boy Pellet Stoves

Canadian Comfort Industries’ Glow Boy pellet stoves need the air inlet damper and fuel rate to be set correctly to work efficiently. The air inlet damper needs to be set so that the stove doesn’t “popcorn.” Popcorning is when the fire takes whole, fresh pellets out of the grate in addition to ash. Sparking from popcorning also needs to be avoided. Sparking can be caused by the new, fresh pellets knocking out burning pellets. These issues can be corrected with some adjustments. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Glow Boy pellet stove normally. Allow it to heat up and fro the lighter to switch off. Press the Feed Rate button until the Number 4 light illuminates.

    • 2

Adjust the damper. It’s a rod that’s found on the rear panel at the side. ¼-inch or ½-inch open should do it. The idea is to avoid popcorning. Adjust the damper rod ¼-inch at a time until popcorning stops. Fresh pellets should burn fully before being ejected as ash.

Make fine adjustments. Final adjustments are based on the installation, geography, and quality of the pellets. Set the Feed rate to the Number 1 position. Turn the Number 1 Trim Pot adjustment anti-clockwise with a non-metallic screwdriver until the dial stops and then back to horizontal. Do the same with the Number 4 Trim Pot.

Make final adjustments. Allow the stove to burn for ten minutes and then adjust the 1 and 4 Trim Pots again. Clockwise decreases the feed rate and counter-clockwise increases it.
