How to Start a Wi-Fi Internet Service

Even if you don't have a wireless router or modem you can still start a Wi-Fi Internet service in your home, so long as your computer has a built-in wireless network adapter. You can create what is called an "ad-hoc" network, which is a wireless network that is being generated directly from your computer. If that computer is connected to the Internet, any device in the area can connect to the ad-hoc and share the Internet connection just like a regular Wi-Fi network.

  • Click "Start" on your PC.

  • Click "Control Panel."

  • Click "Network and Sharing Center."

  • Click "Set up a Connection or Network."

  • Choose the "Set up an ad-hoc" option from the bottom of the window and click "Next." Name your network. A name is required so that others can connect to it. If you want, you can type a password into the "Password" box. All users will need to properly enter the password in order to connect to the Wi-Fi service. Click "Finish." You have just created your own Wi-Fi Internet service in your home.
