How to Make a Log Cabin With Popsicle Sticks
Whether you want to celebrate Presidents Day with a model of Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home or you just want a fun craft activity for a rainy day, you can easily build a log cabin out of Popsicle sticks. Popsicle sticks are versatile crafting materials and are inexpensive to purchase from any crafting or hobby shop. With the right preparation and materials, you can construct your own log cabin out of Popsicle sticks in an afternoon.
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay newspaper down on your work surface to protect it from any drips or spills of glue.
-
2
Lay two Popsicle sticks down parallel to each other. Glue two additional sticks on top of these to form a square.
-
-
3
Continue adding successive layers of Popsicle sticks until the walls of your cabin reach the desired height.
-
4
Glue two Popsicle sticks together at right angles, end-to-end. Set the glued pair of sticks aside. Glue two more sticks together in the same way. These angled sticks will serve as the framework for the roof.
-
5
Fold a piece of cardboard at a right angle to create a tent shape. Set the carboard on the work surface with the fold up. Place one set of angled sticks at each end of the cardboard form. The cardboard will steady the framework sticks while the roof slats are glued in place.
-
6
Glue Popsicle sticks to the framework to make roof slats, spanning the distance between the two sets of angled sticks.
-
7
Set the completed roof on top of the house. On the open sides of the roof, glue a Popsicle stick to the inside wall of the house so that the top of the stick just barely touches the peak of the roof. Glue one stick for each open side of the roof.
-
8
Cut shorter lengths of Popsicle stick to fit the two triangular gaps between the walls and the roof peak. Glue these shorter lengths of Popsicle stick to the central support sticks leading to the peak of the roof.
