Visit the Wayne County Clerk’s office to apply for a marriage license. Applicants 20 years old or younger must have a certified copy of their birth certificate to prove their identity. Anyone 21 or older can use a passport, driver’s license, state or military ID card or their birth certificate to prove their identity. Applicants age 16 or 17 must have parental consent, and applicants age 14 or 15 must have a court order to be allowed to apply for a marriage license in Wayne County.

Present proof of your identity along with proof of your social security number to the Clerk’s office. Fill out the marriage certificate application, which both parties must sign in the presence of the Court Clerk.

Pay for your marriage license. The fee, as of 2010, is $60, and the Wayne County Clerk’s office accepts only cash or personal checks as a form of payment. Your certificate is issued while you wait. There is not waiting period to use your marriage license--but it expires 60 days after the date it was issued to you.
