How to Make a Capri Sun Pencil Holder
Making a Capri Sun pencil pouch is a creative way to recycle and make something your child will love to carry to school. With just a couple of used juice pouches you would have thrown away otherwise and some notions from the fabric store, you can spend a few hours creating something amusing and individual. Make sure you use a heavy duty needle (like those made for denim) on your sewing machine. Other than that, you probably already have everything you need.
Things You'll Need
- 4 used juice pouches
- Ruler
- Sewing machine with heavy duty needle
- Thread
- 1 8-inch zipper

Cut slits in the bottoms of the Capri Sun pouches and drain any extra juice. Run water through the juice pouches to get rid of any residual juice and prop them up on a drying rack with the bottoms open. Allow them to dry thoroughly.

Lay a ruler out on the table in front of you. Lay two Capri Sun pouches end to end in front of the ruler and overlap them so that together they measure 9 1/2 inches. Use your sewing machine to stitch the bags together. Repeat this process for the other two bags so you have two long rectangles, each measureing 9 1/2 inches.

Hold your zipper with its outer side facing the outer side of one of the rectangles. Line up the zipper with one of the rectangle's long edges. Use your sewing machine to sew the zipper to the rectangle. Take the other rectangle and sew it to the other side of the zipper. You should now have one large rectangle with the zipper running down the center of it.

Bring the pouches' wrong sides together to form the pouch. Sew along the edges opposite the zipper and then sew up the narrow sides.

Use scissors to trim the edges so they're all even. Trim any hanging threads.
