How to Make Homemade Teddy Bear Cakes
Instead of creating one large teddy bear cake at your next party, serve a variety of miniature teddy bear cakes. You can use different colors of frosting on each cake to make a rainbow of delicious teddy bears or stick with chocolate and vanilla frosting to render realistically tinted bear cakes. Each cake will serve approximately three to four people so make several to accommodate all of your guests. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Grease a standard size cupcake pan and a mini muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray.
-
2
Divide prepared cake batter between the two prepared pans. You need two standard-size cupcakes and five mini cupcakes for each teddy bear cake.
-
-
3
Bake the pans following the cooking temperature indicated in your cake recipe. Watch the mini muffins closely as they will finish baking before the cupcakes.
-
4
Remove the pans from the oven and allow the cupcakes to cool before taking them from the baking pans.
-
5
Place one standard size cupcake on a wire rack or piece of wax paper. This is the body of your teddy bear.
-
6
Apply a dollop of frosting to the side of a second cupcake and press it into the side of the first cupcake to form the teddy bear's head.
-
7
Apply frosting to one side of four mini muffins and press them onto the sides of the teddy bear's body to form his arms and legs.
-
8
Cut one mini muffin in half to form the teddy bear's ears. Spread frosting onto the cut side of each half and press onto the teddy bear's head.
-
9
Empty a can of store-bought frosting into a microwave safe bowl and heat the frosting for five to 10 seconds in the microwave. Stir the frosting and continue to heat until it becomes thin and drips quickly from your spoon. Add a few drops of food coloring to the frosting if desired.
-
10
Pour frosting over the teddy bear shaped cupcakes to cover the top and sides of the teddy bear. This creates a smooth surface and makes the cake appear to be one piece of cake rather than several cupcakes. Do not use the entire container of frosting on one teddy bear cake, you only need a thin layer on each cake.
-
11
Press round candy covered chocolates onto the teddy bear cake before the frosting sets to create facial features. You can use a miniature peanut butter cup to create a snout and a piece of red shoestring licorice to make a mouth.
-
12
Remove the teddy bear cakes from the wire rack or wax paper when the frosting is cool and firm to the touch. Serve each teddy bear cake on its own plate or arrange them on a large platter.
