How to Broadcast Music in Ventrilo

Playing some music for your friends while gaming can really lighten the mood.

Ventrilo is a voice chat program that allows you to speak with your friends while playing computer games together. Sometimes when the game is going a little slow, or your friends mention a certain song they would like to hear, you might want to broadcast some tunes for them to listen to. This can be done very easily using a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

• Music playback program
• Ventrilo
• Microphone
• Speakers

Instructions

1. Open Ventrilo. Connect to the server that your friends are chatting on by entering the hostname, port number and password into their respective boxes.

2. Open a music playback program such as iTunes or Windows Media Player.

3. Play the selected song through your computer's speakers. Ensure that it is loud enough to be picked up by your microphone but quiet enough that it will not distort the sound and become unpleasant for your friends to listen to.

4. Press your microphone activation hot key (the standard is "Ctrl" on Windows) and let the song play into the microphone. Your friends will now be able to hear the song you are listening to. Release the hot key at any time to stop the streaming audio.

Tips & Warnings

• If your friends request that you stop playing music so they can focus on the game being played, you should always oblige them. If you want to play with them again, it is best to be polite.

• To avoid feedback, try to make sure the microphone can hear the music being played but that it also can't hear too much of the playback coming from Ventrilo. This will cause the microphone to replay its own signals, increasing in volume and becoming very unpleasant to listen to.
