How to Disassemble an MP40
The MP40–short for "Maschinenpistole" or literally "Machine Pistol"–is one of the most recognizable weapons in the world. The MP40 was developed by the Nazi regime during World War II and used extensively against the allied forces. The gun has a solid place in history and is a favorite among antique collectors. In keeping with the reputation of German engineers, the MP40 is a simple weapon to operate, and to break down and disassemble for cleaning or repair. No tools are needed.

Remove the magazine from the MP40 and place it aside, then pull back the bolt handle to eject any cartridge that might have been loaded in the firing chamber. This should always be your first step when working on a firearm.

Grip the take-down knob on the bottom of the MP-40 and pull it straight down, then give it a quarter-turn.

Release the knob and get a grip on the bolt handle. Pull the trigger and bring the bolt forward slowly until it has come all the way forward.

Keep the trigger pulled and rotate the barrel and barrel assemble clockwise–looking down the barrel from the rear of the gun–to disengage the barrel from the weapon.

Pull the barrel assembly off of the lower part of the MP40, then pull the bolt all the way out the back of the barrel assembly.
