The Lorcin L380 is a semi-automatic pistol in .380 ACP caliber. It is a medium-sized firearm that is magazine-fed and uses a striker-firing system. It is easy to partially take this pistol apart for cleaning and inspection, which should be done on a regular basis. This procedure is referred to as "breaking down" a semi-automatic for this purpose.

Items you will need

  • 12x12 inch carpeted pad

  • Sturdy work bench

  • Dry, clean rags

Breaking down an L380

Remove the cartridge magazine. Using both hands, point the muzzle of the pistol in a safe direction and work the slide fully back and forth several times. Visually inspect the chamber to ensure there is not a cartridge inside, a step that can be done while pointing the business end of the barrel away from you.

Place the butt of the pistol handle on the carpeted pad and wipe the firearm with a clean, dry rag. This will remove any grease or oil that might make the parts slippery. Make sure your hands are dry and clean also. For safety reasons, it is smart to work on a sturdy, uncluttered workbench with all supplies needed within easy reach.

Grasp the top of the pistol with an overhand grip so the rear of the pistol is facing you. You will notice a circular hole on the flat end of the back of the slide. This is the striker firing pin opening. If the pistol is cocked, the opening will be closed. If it is, you must dry-fire the unloaded pistol to move the firing pin out of the way. If the L380 is not cocked, the hole will be open and you can proceed to the next step.

Hold the firearm by the grip with one hand. With the other hand, again with an overhand grip, grasp the rear of the slide and simultaneously push the striker-pin hole inward and pull up on the rear of the slide. The slide should easily disengage from the pistol frame

Pull the slide to the rear and up and it will be free from the pistol frame. At this point you will have partially disassembled the L380, and it is now easy to visually inspect most of the working parts of the gun. In this condition, you can also clean many of the major parts of it, as well as oil and grease it.

Warnings

  • Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Do not disassemble a loaded gun. The L380 is a striker-firing pistol that is prone to go off if dropped. Do not disassemble any firearm if you do not fully understand the steps required to do so.

Tips

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the care and maintenance of the Lorcin L380. After breaking it down, there is no need to further disassemble the gun.
