Marriage certificates acknowledge the union of two people through marriage through the eyes of the government. Certificates are mandatory to validate marriages in Ontario. Attain a marriage certificate before the actual marriage ceremony. Marriage certificates are also available for insurance, divorce and immigration purposes. Certificates are available through the provincial government of Ontario.

      Apply for marriage certificate. This must be done by the bridge and/or groom, a child produced of their union or either individual's parents. This can be completed at an Ontario service location, online or by mail.

      Provide information on the application as to the time and place of the wedding including the city, location address and date.

      Provide information on the bride and groom. This includes their full names prior to marriage and place of birth.

      Sign the form and submit to the government. This may be done at a government office, by mailing the completed form to the Office of the Register General or by submitting it online.

      Complete payment upon submission. Payment is available at a service counter through Visa, Mastercard, check, American Express or money order. A credit card is the only accepted method of payment for online or standard mail applications.

  • There is no limit on the amount of marriage certificates an individual can apply for or receive.
