Directions for a Balloon Curtain
New curtains are an easy way to refresh the look of a living room, or totally change the mood of a bedroom. Balloon curtains look very similar to a valance, but they use extra fabric, tulle or newspaper to make it puffy looking. This can give a fun look to the curtain and window. A bubble curtain is basically a valance curtain folded up double to create a pocket in which to stuff the extra material.

1
Measure the window that you are putting the curtain in.
-
2
Cut your fabric two to three times the width of the window. The length should be roughly 24 inches.
-
-
3
Hem the bottom and sides of the piece of fabric, putting in a 1-inch hem.
-
4
Fold the top down and hem, leaving a 2-inch pocket in the hem. If your curtain rod is wider than 2 inches, make the pocket big enough.
-
5
Fold the curtain in half, with the wrong sides together. The bottom of the curtain should come up to just below the hem line on the top.
-
6
Sew the bottom of the curtain to the top of the curtain, using a long basting stitch.
-
7
Put the curtain on the rod and place it in the window.
-
8
Ball up newspaper and place it in the large pocket of the curtain. Make sure it is evenly puffed out along the window.
