How to Remove a Hori Screen Protector

A HORI Screen Protective Filter, also known as a HORI screen protector, is a piece of plastic film used as a barrier between a video game console LCD screen and a stylus, to prevent dust or other particles from scratching or denting the screen. Sometimes the protector isn't aligned properly during installation, dust or other debris becomes trapped beneath the protector, or the protector becomes damaged from heavy or harsh usage. Any of these scenarios then requires removal of the screen protector to clean the screen/screen protector or to replace the protector.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your video game console on a flat surface.

    • 2

Place an inch-sized piece of sticky tape--any tape with an extremely sticky adhesive--on the corner of your HORI screen protector with approximately quarter to half of the piece of tape above the protector.

    • 3

Rub the tape against the protector with your fingernail to create a bond between the tape and the protector.

    • 4

Grip the piece of tape above the protector and pull gently to lift the corner of the protector from your video game console screen.

    • 5

Grasp the taped corner with your fingers and pull the protector from the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If tape won’t pull the protector from the screen, pick up your video game console in your non-dominant hand and place the tip of your fingernail along the top left or right corner edge of the HORI screen protector. Push your fingernail lightly against the edge until it slides beneath the corner, lift the corner of the screen protector up with your fingernail until you've pulled enough of the protector from the screen that you can grasp the corner between your fingers and then pull the protector from the screen.

  • Never use a sharp pointed object such as tweezers or a needle to remove the HORI screen protector from your video game console as doing so can not only scratch or puncture the screen, but also void your video game console manufacturer's warranty. A fingernail can also scratch you video game console screen if pushed forcefully against it.
