Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry your hair in the evening before you go to bed. Towel dry your hair lightly, squeezing away the excess moisture. Do not blow your hair dry—damp hair curls more easily.

    • 2

Rub a quarter-sized dollop of leave-in conditioner through your hair, combing it out straight. Scoop the top layers of your hair into a loose ponytail by pushing it back with your thumbs starting at the tops of your ears. This leaves the lower layers of hair free for ragging.

    • 3

Separate a 1-inch-wide section of hair at the base of your skull near your jaw. Place a strip of fabric near the ends of the section. Roll the fabric up, wrapping your hair around it as you go. Roll about ¾ of the way up, then tie the ends of the fabric strip together. Repeat with the other sections of your hair.

    • 4

Sleep on your ragged hair, allowing it to dry overnight. Remove the strips in the order you tied them, gently untangling your curls from the rags. Tousle the curls slightly with your fingers, shaking your head to settle them. They will loosen slightly throughout the morning into soft, bouncy curls.
