How to Word Wedding Place Cards
Wedding place cards aren't simply a way for guests to find their seats at your reception. They are also an opportunity for you to create a memory of the day for your guests. A thoughtful quote at the top or inside the place card makes it a keepsake for attendees. Traditional wedding etiquette dictates how to word wedding place cards. The finished cards are placed on the table at each guest's seat. In contrast to escort cards, which direct guests to an open seat at a particular table, place cards are a more formal way to show a guest their place at the table.

1
Fold the tented place card in half, across the perforation, and write each person's name on a single card. Traditional wedding place cards are worded using formal titles such as "Mr.," "Mrs.," "Ms." and "Miss." If you prefer slightly less formal place cards, write the person's full name or use their first initial, rather than a formal title.
-
2
Write the names on both sides of the card so that guests can read them from across the table and address each other accordingly. This provides guests who don't know one another with a less awkward way to remember names.

3
Write the place card of unknown guests using the word "Guest" or prefaced with the attendee's name, such as "Mr. John Smith's Guest." If possible, avoid using "guest," and instead, contact the attendee and ask him for the guest's name.
-
4
Set aside a few blank place cards so you can make last-minute corrections or accommodate unexpected guests.
