Scrabble Tile Necklace Tutorial

Turn Scrabble tiles into pendants.

Although you can purchase Scrabble tile pendants from any number of crafty sellers online, you can make them yourself. Many people use decorative paper for their Scrabble necklaces, but any image on paper works just as well. Use a photo, origami paper or scrapbook paper, or print images on your computer printer. Hang a single Scrabble pendant from a chain, or wear several pendants separated by beads.

Things You'll Need

• Index card
• Scrabble tile
• Pencil
• Utility knife
• Paper
• Scissors
• Craft glue
• Metal nail file
• Decoupage glue
• Small paint brushes
• Diamond Glaze
• Super glue
• Small Aanraku jewelry bail

Instructions

1. Trace a Scrabble tile onto an index card and cut out a hole the size of the tile. Place the index card on top of your selected paper to help you determine the exact part of the design you want on your pendant. Trace the index card cutout onto the paper.

2. Cut the paper slightly outside the pencil lines. Apply glue to the back of the paper with a paint brush and place the paper onto the back of the Scrabble tile (the side without a letter). Let the glue dry for 20 minutes and trim the excess paper with a utility knife.

3. Rub the edges of the paper with a metal nail file to smooth the cut edges and ensure that the paper is flush with the edges of the Scrabble tile.

4. Spread decoupage glue on top of the paper with a small paint brush. Let the decoupage glue dry for 20 minutes.

5. Apply Diamond Glaze to the paper directly from the bottle. Apply glue to the edges first to avoid drips, and fill in the middle afterward. Let the Diamond Glaze dry for four hours.

6. Put a drop of super glue onto the bail and attach it to center top of the lettered side of the Scrabble tile. Hold the bail in place for a few seconds until it sticks fast.

7. Rub a metal nail file over the sides of the tile to remove any excess dried glue or glaze. Allow the Diamond Glaze to cure for three days before wearing your Scrabble tile pendant.
