How to Make Lined Drapery Panels
There are many reasons for lining a drapery panel, such as light and temperature control, creating reversible panels and using print and patterned fabric. Choose a lightweight sheer fabric for brighter rooms. Choose a heavy drapery fabric for black-out shades. For combined style and function, select a print fabric for the front and a heavy solid for the back. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
Measure and Cut the Fabric
-
1
Measure the width of the drapery rod you plan to use for your lined drapery panels. Add 2 inches.
-
2
Measure from the rod to the bottom of the window sill, or to the floor if you have a full-length window. Add 6 inches.
-
-
3
Lay the fabric out at your work station and measure the width from step 1. Pin the fabric here for reference. Measure again at the center and at the bottom of the fabric.
-
4
Measure the length requirements from step 2. Pin the fabric. Measure again in two other places.
-
5
Cut the fabric along the pins.
Sew the Panels
-
6
Stack the fabric together so that the good sides are on the inside.
-
7
Pin 1 inch above the edges of the fabric, except the top.
-
8
Sew along the pins, removing the pins as you go.
-
9
Flip the fabric right-side-out. Fold the top over the back of the fabric one inch. Pin this. Fold the fabric another 5 inches and pin again.
-
10
Sew the rod pocket at the top of the fabric, removing the pins one at a time.
