1
Clear bedroom furniture away from the walls. Fill any holes in the walls with putty, let dry, and sand smooth. Remove light switch plates and cover light switches. Put painter's tape along the baseboard and on window trim to protect it from drips. Lay down plastic sheeting to protect the floor from paint drips.

Prime the walls if you are changing a room from a dark color to a light green. Primer will cover the old color and the new green paint you use will look more true to its intended color. Use an angled brush to apply primer along the corners of the ceiling and near the baseboards. Paint up or down a few inches, and then use a roller to cover the rest of the wall. Pour primer into a paint tray, roll the paint roller into the primer, and then roll it onto the wall, blending with the cut-in section while it is still wet. This Old House Magazine recommends you keep a damp towel in your belt loop as you prime and paint to easily clean up paint drips.

Cut paint into the corners of the room and along the ceiling, baseboards, and windows using an angled brush to paint along the edge and a few inches out where a roller can reach. Pour some paint into a paint tray, and use a roller to paint the wall, painting into the cut-in area while it is still wet.

Let the paint dry thoroughly. Remove the painter's tape carefully to avoid lifting the paint up with it. Replace the light switch plates. Replace the furniture.
