How to Vacuum Pool Waste

How to Vacuum Pool Waste thumbnail
Keep your pool looking clean with regular vacuuming.

Swimming pools allow people to relax and cool off during the summer months. Pools are generally constructed outdoors and are exposed to the elements. During the course of a pool's lifetime, debris such as dirt enters the pool. Dirt that is left in the pool can cause cloudy water and pose a health risk to swimmers if no cleaning action is taken. Pool waste is removed from the pool by vacuuming the pool water and sending the waste to the pool filter or out of the pool entirely. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the vacuum hose out onto the ground. Attach the swiveling end of the hose to the large nipple on the top of the vacuum head.

    • 2

Slide the end of a pool pole over the handle of the vacuum head. Ensure the vacuum head is locked securely in place by clicking the two small locking nipples on the vacuum head handle into place in the holes of the pool pole.

    • 3

Prime your assembled vacuuming equipment. Due to the large variety of vacuums available, refer to your vacuum's owner's manual for priming instructions. Generally, priming is obtained by holding the free end of the vacuum hose over a pool jet until the hose is full of water, then moving the hose end over to and into the skimmer hole.

    • 4

Run the vacuum head slowly over your pool's bottom. Maneuver the vacuum over all submerged pool surfaces until they are clean.

    • 5

Skim the surface of the pool with a leaf net attached to pool pole to pick up floating debris. For large amounts of debris on the surface, spray the debris with a water hose to push it to one area of the pool for better pickup.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your pool has no pool jets, insert a water hose into your vacuum hose to help prime it.

  • If your pool vacuum becomes clogged, insert a running water hose into the hose to dislodge stuck debris.
