How to Replace a 2001 Toyota Sienna Fuel Filter

The fuel filter installed in a 2001 Toyota Sienna makes sure that no damaging elements that may be present in the gas tank make their way into the fuel-injection system. Over time, this filter catches more and more particulates, until it starts to slow down the inflow of fuel from the tank. As a result, Toyota recommends changing the fuel filter every 20,000 miles, to keep the fuel running properly. Replacing the filter should take about 30 minutes or so.
Step 1
Open up the hood. Locate the fuel filter, which is directly next to the fuel rail, which itself is on the top of the engine. Place a drain pan underneath one of the fuel lines on the filter, then slowly open up one of the lines with a line wrench to let the pressure in the system bleed off.
Step 2
Remove the fuel line bolts on both ends of the filter, using a line wrench, and discard the old fuel line gaskets. Unbolt the fuel filter from the block with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and discard it.
Step 3
Install the replacement filter to the bracket with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, making sure the arrow on the filter points towards the engine. Reinstall the fuel line bolts, using the replacement gaskets on both sides of the fuel line, and tighten the bolts with the line wrench.
