1
Remove furniture, curtains and hardware from the area that is to be painted. Place these items in another room where they cannot be damaged by the paint.
-
2
Place drop cloths on the flooring below the walls where you will be painting. Use painters tape to tape off windows, the ceiling and any other area that you want to protect from paint splatter.
-
-
3
Caulk visible gaps between the walls and the molding. Apply a small bead of caulk to the gap and then smooth the caulk with your finger.
-
4
Prime the walls of the room with latex primer and a paint roller. Instead of using a white primer, opt for a primer with a grey tint. Use a paint brush to get into the corners of the room. Allow the primer to dry completely.
-
5
Paint the walls with the grey latex paint. Because you have already used a grey primer on the walls, you should be able to get good coverage with just one or two coats of paint. If you have highly textured walls use a high-nap paint roller to get into all of the dimples on the wall. Use a paint brush to paint the hard-to-reach areas of the room. Allow the grey paint to dry and recoat as necessary.
