How to Obtain a Copy of My Colorado Tax Return thumbnail
Colorado allows people to obtain copies of their tax returns.

Sometimes a taxpayer will need a copy of a previously filed tax return. If the taxpayer filed a Colorado state tax return, he will be able to request a copy of a return using Form DR 5714. Colorado only keeps records for the previous nine years. The returns will take seven to 10 days to obtain. The charge is 25 cents per page, with the first 10 pages supplied free of charge.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill out Form DR 5714. The form is very self-explanatory. An income tax return is two pages when you figure out the amount due. Be specific for the return you are requesting. For example, if you want your 2009 return, in the Beginning column, write January 2009 and in the Ending column write December 2009.

    • 2

Notarize the form. Notarization can come from any notary, such as a lawyer, or notary public. Notaries are often found at banks, town halls or a lawyer's office.

    • 3

Mail the form to Colorado Department of Revenue, Tax Files, Denver, CO 80261. If you end up owing any money for the copies, the Colorado Department of Revenue will send you a bill.
