How to Modify an Atari 2600 to Support AV Input

Connect your Atari 2600 to any television you choose.

The Atari 2600 is one of the original game based platforms available for home use. If you still have (or have recently acquired) the Atari 2600, you are going to find it no longer connects to your television. This is because the single black RCA audio-video cable it comes with is no longer found on televisions (and hasn't been for nearly two decades). To modify the Atari 2600 to support your television's A/V input, use a video switcher that converts the signal from the single RCA connection to the more standard three-part RCA cable connection.

Things You'll Need

• Single RCA cable
• Cable switcher
• RCA audio-video cables
• Television

Instructions

1. Insert the single RCA cable (it came provided with the Atari 2600) into the output connection on the rear of the Atari 2600.

2. Plug the opposite end of the cable into the cable switcher. You can find such a switcher at most video game outlet stores.

3. Insert the RCA audio-video cables into the "Out" connection on the cable switcher.

4. Connect the free ends of the RCA audio/video cables into the "Video In" connection on the television.

5. Power on the Atari 2600 and the television. Push "Video" on the TV, and the video game programming from the Atari 2600 loads onto the screen.
