The belt on the Dyson DC17 is essential for cleaning your carpets.

The Dyson DC17 is a staple of homes across the country. When the Dyson stops picking up debris and you hear it making a lot of noise, it’s probably time to change the belt on the unit. The belt on the Dyson DC17 turns the brush roller on the bottom of the unit. When the brush roller isn’t being turned, the unit will not pick up any dust or dirt on your carpet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power cord from the electrical supply. Press the small lever on the side of your unit so it can lay flat on the ground.

    • 2

Turn the Dyson DC17 over so you have access to the base plate on top of the brush roller. Locate the plastic fasteners on the sides of the base plate. Turn the plastic fasteners counterclockwise to remove them from the base plate.

    • 3

Remove the base plate from the vacuum once the fasteners are out of the unit. Pull the brush roller out of the housing. The belt will be attached to the brush roller and the motor pulley at the top of the unit’s bottom side.

Slide the belt off of the brush roller and then remove the belt from the motor pulley. Wrap your new belt around the brush roller and put the brush roller back into its housing. Stretch the belt so it wraps around the motor pulley. Turn the brush roller a couple of times to make sure the belt is on securely.
