DIY Paper Lanterns
Paper lanterns give a festive flair to any special occasion, whether you are throwing a birthday party or a wedding reception. If you are on a tight budget and do not have the money to buy paper lanterns at the store, make your own at home for a fraction of the cost. Buy paper that will give you the look you desire, whether it is thin or thick. Choose colors that go with the theme of the occasion, such as white for a wedding.
Instructions

1
Fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise, making a deep crease in the paper. Keep the paper in this folded position.
-
2
Cut a dozen slits about 2 inches long along the fold in the paper. Leave an inch of space between the slits and the ends of the paper.
-
-
3
Unfold the paper, and roll it into a cylinder, with the short sides of the paper touching each other. The slits on the paper will be running perpendicular to the floor.
-
4
Fasten the short sides of the paper together with glue or staples. Attach a strip of paper 6 inches long and 2 inches wide to the top edge of the lantern to form a handle.
-
5
Run a piece of string through the space between the lantern and the handle. Once you have made and strung several lanterns, hang the string up.
