How to Install Tape in a Dispenser
A tape dispenser that holds a large roll of packing tape speeds up sealing boxes, because you can unroll and cut the tape with one hand. A dispenser also keeps the end of the tape ready to stick down to start the next strip, instead of stuck back against the roll. There are two common kinds of dispensers. A less expensive type is usually made of plastic, without a handle or roller. The other is larger and includes a trigger-like handle and a roller.

Dispenser Without a Handle or Roller
-
1
Unhook the plastic tabs from each other, inside the old roll of tape, so the two halves of the dispenser are free from each other. Spread the two halves gently and remove the empty roll of tape.
-
2
Slip the new roll of tape in the dispenser so the tape unrolls with the smooth (not sticky) side against the teeth. Hook the plastic tabs again.

3
Pull a few inches of the tape off the roll and slip it up under the two plastic feeders, located an inch or so behind the metal teeth. To use, pull the tape forward beyond the teeth, stick the end down and move the dispenser backward, letting the tape slide out of the dispenser. When you want to cut it, twist the dispenser so the teeth engage one end of the tape and use them to rip across the tape with a tearing motion.

4
Lay the dispenser on its side, so you can see the reel that holds the tape. Place the tape on the reel so it rotates counter-clockwise when you pull off the tape.
-
5
Pick up the dispenser by the handle and pull the braking flap away from the roller. Pull out a few inches of tape.
-
6
Feed the tape between the roller and the flap, on the handle-side of the roller, then pull it around the roller toward the teeth. To use the dispenser, stick the end of the tape down by pressing it against the box with the dispenser. Pull the dispenser toward you, letting the tape unwind. When you want to cut, twist the dispenser so the teeth rip into the tape, tearing it off.

Tips & Warnings
Be careful of the metal teeth. They'll cut skin as well as tape.
