How to Choose a Place for RV Batteries Inside
When storing an RV battery inside your RV, you want to choose a location that is easy to get to, while allowing the battery to stay clean and maintain consistent temperature while in storage. While the idea of storing your RV battery just anywhere inside your RV may be appealing, it could cause irreparable damage to your battery and prematurely deplete the battery of power causing unnecessary charges over the long run.

1
Measure the dimensions of the battery, so you know how much space the battery requires.
-
2
Store the battery inside a vented compartment such as a box made of plywood with an aluminum covering. The sturdy nature of plywood and aluminum make the materials an effective combination. On average, an RV battery can weigh up to 60 pounds. Build your own vented battery box or purchase one online or from an auto parts dealer.

Spray the compartment with a vinyl undercoating, which will acid proof the interior. A baking soda paste is an alternative, cheap and effective way to equalize acid and protect the battery terminals from acid damage. Use enough water to create a paste from the baking soda. Apply the baking soda paste to the battery and vented compartment; be sure not to get baking soda on the cells, though.

Store the vented compartment with the battery inside the RV coach. Choose a location that is out of the way of traffic and gases. An ideal location is under the kitchen sink. This location will provide adequate protection and keep the battery away from the living area, where spills and other accidents are likely to occur.
